A contribution for the young onco-haematology patients of the Children’s Hospital
On 21st June, we celebrated the ‘National Day for the Fight against Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma’.
This important date gave us cause to reflect on the value of research, treatment and support for those facing complex journeys through illness. It was an opportunity to remember how solidarity can translate into concrete actions that make a real difference to people’s lives.
For this reason, we at Itap have chosen to support AIL Brescia by contributing to the project for the renovation of the Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of ASST Spedali Civili di Brescia, dedicated to young onco-haematology patients at the Children’s Hospital.
A gesture born from the desire to stay close to our local community and take part in a project that places care, hospitality and the future of children and their families at its heart.
The project, promoted by AIL Brescia together with “Fondazione della Comunità Bresciana – Fondo Cavaliere del Lavoro Francesco Folonari, Monica e Luca Folonari” has a clear objective: to renovate the Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, creating more modern, functional spaces suited to the needs of young patients.
The new unit will continue to bear the name “Monica e Luca Folonari” and will be a place designed not only to host specialised care, but also to offer a more protected, welcoming and reassuring environment.
The planned interventions include five positive-pressure inpatient rooms, each with a private bathroom and an anteroom filter, dedicated spaces for families, advanced technologies for monitoring vital signs and child-friendly environments.
These are important details that can make a difference throughout the care journey. A more functional unit means improving the work of healthcare professionals and making the stay less difficult for children and their families during treatment.

The “Aiutiamo Tom!” fundraising campaign tells the story of the project through a simple yet powerful image: Tom, a symbol of all the children who face blood cancers with courage every day.
Tom represents the desire to look beyond illness, to imagine a future and to feel welcomed in a place that combines medical expertise with human attention.
Supporting this project means helping to give new wings to the Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. It means contributing to the creation of an environment where care is not only treatment, but also protection, closeness and trust.
The works are now at an advanced stage and the goal is getting closer. This makes the project even more tangible: a real response to a real need, made possible by the collaboration between healthcare institutions, associations, foundations, companies and the community.
Supporting AIL Brescia and the “Aiutiamo Tom!” project is, for us, a way to confirm the value of Fondo Itap and our commitment to initiatives capable of generating a impact on the local area.
For us, being part of this project means supporting the Brescia community and looking to the future with responsibility. It means standing close to those experiencing moments of great fragility and contributing, through a real gesture, to improving the quality of care and hospitality.
On the occasion of the National Day against Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma, we wish to renew our support for those facing these diseases and for those who, every day, work to provide care pathways that are increasingly attentive, welcoming and close to the person.
Solidarity becomes truly meaningful when it turns into presence and real gestures, because the future of the youngest deserves spaces where they can feel protected, supported and welcomed.
